Advance Health Care Directives and Property Power of Attorney

Presenter Denise Kaplan will review the basics of Powers of Attorney for healthcare and property in Illinois. The seminar will cover the requirements for the Illinois Statutory Short Form Power of Attorney documents and step-by-step instructions for meeting with clients and drafting these documents.

Special Needs Trust

The presentation will focus on special needs planning, including a basic overview of public benefits, eligibility for those benefits, and the creation of supplemental needs trusts and ABLE Accounts to facilitate benefits eligibility. The goal is to help attendees understand the two different types of supplemental needs trusts and when they are appropriate to be used. The presentation will also address the role of supplemental needs trust in divorce and the role of the probate court in approving and/or overseeing supplemental needs trusts for individuals subject to a guardianship.

Estate Planning

This seminar is meant to provide a solid foundation in estate planning so that volunteers can properly advise clients and create an estate plan that best suits their needs.
