Administration of Small, Uncontested Decedent Estates

This seminar provides an overview for attorneys as to how to open, close, and assist in the administration of small, uncontested Decedent Estates in Cook County, Illinois. Updated for 2021, Steve will also explain how to approach the Probate Court both during the pandemic and after it passes.

Foreclosure and Probate

The incapacity or death of a mortgage borrower creates mass confusion for everyone involved. The borrower’s family doesn’t know their options and cannot speak with the lender. The lender cannot identify who has authority on the account. And everyone’s lawyers are stuck in the middle. Matt Hulstein of CVLS will speak on probate/foreclosure crossover cases and help identify the best path forward for your clients.

Nuts and Bolts of Decedent’s Estates

This “Nuts and Bolts of Decedent’s Estates” CLE will impart important information to the new probate practitioner, from the initial client interview, through court form preparation and appointment of representative, to the closing of a Probate Estate case. Time will be spent on determining the most efficient method of marshalling assets and alternatives to Probate cases, such as Deed in Lieu of Probate and Small Estate Affidavits.

Decedent’s Estate Training

Probate Court Assistance Project Training. This presentation on decedent’s estates is intended for attorneys interested in volunteering in CVLS’ Probate Court Assistance Project (PCAP) in which pro bono practitioners represent low income petitioners in decedent’s estate cases.

PCAP’s champion, Rich Campbell is a partner at Mayer Brown and veteran Probate practitioner. His work with the PCAP program has garnered him CVLS’ coveted Court of Honor Award and the accolades of the Court. Because of his hard work and the success of PCAP we have more cases than expected and need more volunteers in this area..
