CVLS is recruiting and training a new generation of attorneys to assist and advise families who are experiencing financial difficulties as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Through these new projects, CVLS volunteers will serve scores of new clients, including: homeowners struggling with mortgage payments, landlords who can’t pay their bills without rent, and people trying to collect on judgments or debts. In our first training in this new series, experienced housing attorney and CVLS volunteer Wayne Shapiro and Staff Attorney Martin Cozzola will cover the rights and responsibilities of landlords and an overview of the eviction process, including recent permanent changes to Illinois Supreme Court Rule 139 and Chicago’s Fair Notice Ordinance.
