CVLS is training and supporting volunteer attorneys to help small landlords who can’t pay their bills without rent —people who have been financially devastated by the pandemic. They don’t know about recent changes to the law or alternatives to litigation. They need legal help, and just like their counterparts on the other side of the case, they can’t afford attorneys.

Trained volunteers will be matched with appropriate clients for legal advice, including information about alternatives to litigation such as rental assistance, mediation, and repayment plans. In the future, volunteers may also be able to represent clients in Zoom mediation sessions, and if necessary, prepare settlement agreements or court documents.

You do not need relevant experience because all CVLS volunteers are supported by a skilled CVLS staff attorney. You do, however, need to attend this program orientation.

This training will be held remotely via Zoom. Attendees will receive login instructions upon registration.
