In partnership with the DePaul University College of Law, CVLS hosted two first-generation undergraduate students through the First Generation in Law Scholars Program (FGLP). The FGLP invests in first-generation students, especially those from historically underrepresented backgrounds, who demonstrate an interest in attending law school. Students are given immersive, holistic experiences that include internships with law firms and legal organization like CVLS.
This year, we hosted Luz Fajardo and Jazmin Corona-Retiz. Luz and Jazmin both come from immigrant families and have a shared interest in increasing access to justice for marginalized groups. They both hope to use their legal careers to help underserved communities.

Luz and Jazmin were supervised this summer by CVLS attorneys Phil Mohr and Rob Zielinski, who introduced the duo to our important work in the area of family law. They both had the opportunity to observe court proceedings, interact with CVLS clients, and help organize our client files. CVLS is thankful for their time this summer and wishes them the best of luck in the future!
