K. is from Israel and was recently displaced to the United States due to the Israeli–Palestinian conflict. Although she had job prospects in the U.S., K. was unable to work because she only had a tourist visa. K. came to CVLS through the Jewish United Fund (JUF) clinic and met with volunteer Jeff Kriezelman to go over her options.
Jeff learned that K. is a Canadian citizen through her grandmother’s side of the family. He explained to K. that she was eligible for something called a TN visa. TN visas are nonimmigrant visas that allow citizens of Mexico and Canada to work in the United States as part of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
With Jeff’s guidance, K. returned to Canada and re-entered the United States in order to become eligible for a TN visa. In August of this year, K. was approved for a TN visa, which is valid for the next three years. This means K. can now start her job in the U.S. legally. K. is excited to start working and plans to give back by volunteering through the JUF Tikkun Olam Volunteer (TOV) Network, which connects members of the Jewish community with meaningful volunteer opportunities.
