Ben is a young man with high-functioning autism. When he reached the age of 18, his parents were no longer able to make decisions on his behalf. To make things easier, his family suggested that he sign Power of Attorney forms for Healthcare and Property. This way Ben’s parents could continue to make decisions quickly and efficiently for him.
Daniel Zylberberg of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP took Ben’s case through CVLS’ clinic with the Jewish United Fund (JUF) clinic. Concerned about protecting Ben’s interests, Daniel met with Ben in person to make sure this was something he actually wanted. After consulting with Ben, his family, and other attorneys at his firm and at CVLS, Dan confirmed Ben’s understanding of the forms and executed them to the client’s satisfaction.
Ben can continue living a happy and productive life, knowing that any difficult healthcare or financial decisions can be handled by those with his best interests at heart. Thanks to Daniel and CVLS, Ben was able to benefit from these legal services entirely for free.
