Two Birds, One Stone – Providing Pro Bono Assistance at the Illinois Human Rights Commission

Brian Weinthal, the Chief Administrative Law Judge of the Illinois Human Rights Commission, gives a CLE on practice before the IHRC.  The IHRC hears cases in which an individual has alleged discrimination, harassment, sexual harassment, and/or retaliation in the context of employment, real estate transactions, or public accommodations.  While defendant-businesses are required to retain attorneys under Illinois law, many individuals are self-represented, which places them at a significant disadvantage when asserting causes of action within a system meant to protect them from disparate treatment.

This is a great opportunity for volunteers who want to experience litigating cases before an Administrative Law Judge under an expedited process. CVLS has offered to accept and screen appropriate IHRC referrals and would welcome anyone interested in learning how to practice before the Commission.
