On September 14th, the ISBA community came together at the breathtaking Renaissance Chicago Downtown Hotel for an event that radiated appreciation and recognition. The stars of the evening? None other than the remarkable 2022-23 ISBA Award Recipients!

We are absolutely bursting with pride as we congratulate our very own CVLS Executive Director, the one and only Margaret Benson, on receiving the prestigious Joseph R. Bartylak Award.

Meg's journey is nothing short of awe-inspiring, spanning over four remarkable decades of unwavering dedication to the cause of legal aid. She has been a guiding light, an unwavering force, and an unrelenting champion for justice for those who need it most.

The Joseph R. Bartylak Memorial Legal Services Award, established by the ISBA's Delivery of Legal Services committee, is a symbol of the highest honor. It pays tribute to individuals who, like Meg, have demonstrated extraordinary commitment and a heart brimming with compassion. These are the champions of civil legal services, the ones who have provided stellar legal representation and unwavering support to Illinois' vulnerable and low-income communities.

We couldn't be more thrilled to see her receive this well-deserved recognition. Her unwavering commitment to legal aid is an inspiration to us all. So, let's raise our glasses and celebrate Margaret Benson, the shining star of legal aid, and her incredible 40-year journey of making a difference!
