PCAP Founder Receives Well Deserved Award
Longtime CVLS volunteer, Richard A. Campbell of Mayer Brown, recently received the ISBA’s 2019-20 John C. MaAndrews Pro Bono Service Award. The award, named in memory of Rock Island attorney John McAndrews, was established to honor the extraordinary commitment of individuals, bar associations or law firms/corporate legal departments who make a substantial contribution to Illinois legal aid.
Rich was honored for meeting a critical need and expanding pro bono legal services by creating CVLS’ Probate Court Assistance Program (PCAP). Over the past few years, Rich has enlisted nearly 70 experienced trust and estate attorneys to take 114 pro bono decedent’s estates cases for low-income clients who could not afford to hire counsel. His efforts have not only helped the clients served by this program, they’ve also relieved courtrooms struggling to meet the needs of self-represented litigants in probate courts
Richard is a fantastic resource to CVLS. As a veteran Probate practitioner, his wealth of knowledge helps volunteers and staff on scores of cases every year as he remains actively involved as a mentor and guide, helping clients who would otherwise have no access to representation.
Congratulations Richard. Your award is very well deserved.
