(up to $15,000 grant paid to your mortgage company to bring your mortgage current)
The Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) will start accepting applications for Emergency Mortgage Assistance (EMA) grants on August 24, 2020. Check back then. Visit ema.ihda.org for more information.
CARES Act Mortgage Forbearance
(pause your mortgage payments for at least six months, up to one year. Missed payments are deferred to end of the loan or recapitalized through modification.)
A federal law put in place two protections for homeowners with federally or Government Sponsored Enterprise (GSE) backed mortgages (FHA, VA, USDA, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac). Learn more about these options and if they're right for your situation.
To be eligible for EMA grant:
Your household income before March 1, 2020 was within the allowable limits.
You, or an adult member of your household, suffered a loss of income due to COVID-19.
You missed a mortgage payment on or after March 1, 2020.
