Our client was involved in a vehicle collision and was sued by the other driver. Both parties were at fault for different reasons, but CVLS’ client is low-income and was unable to afford the damages sought by the other side. That’s when our volunteers, Jim Costello and Sukhi Kaur, came to his defense.
After learning the details of the accident, Jim and Sukhi determined that the best strategy would be to file a counterclaim to mitigate damages. It worked.
After Sukhi handled the mandatory arbitration, the arbitration panel awarded our client enough to offset the amount he owed. Fortunately, that brought an end to the case, and the client and his attorneys were left satisfied.
Not all clients have the luxury of hiring a lawyer when they’re being sued. Thanks to our volunteers, CVLS clients are able to access the quick thinking and creative problem-solving of attorneys like Jim and Sukhi. That’s the beauty of the CVLS model – providing top-quality representation to those who need it and ensuring equal access to justice.
