The department also oversees local property tax assessments, and functions as the funding agent for the Illinois Housing Development Authority.

We do this by overseeing over one million professionals in nearly 100 industries. We license everything from barbers to banks and architects to veterinarians. We also oversee most of the state’s financial institutions, which have combined assets in excess of $4 trillion.
Illinois Secretary of State: The Illinois Office of the Secretary of State is the most diverse of its kind in the nation. From issuing driver licenses and registering vehicles, to promoting organ donation awareness, overseeing the Illinois State Library and administering the state's literacy efforts, this office directly touches the lives of nearly everyone in Illinois.

Illinois Office of State Guardian: The Office of State Guardian (OSG) is the largest public guardianship agency of its kind in the United States, serving nearly 5,300 adult disabled wards. With cases in virtually every Illinois county, the Office of State Guardian handles the personal, financial, and legal affairs of developmentally disabled, mentally ill and elderly persons with disablilities.
Illinois Office of the Governor: The Illinois Constitution, Article V, Section 8, states that "The Governor shall have the supreme executive power, and shall be responsible for the faithful execution of the laws." The purpose of the Office is to ensure proper execution of the laws in Illinois.
Illinois Attorney General's Office: The Attorney General is the state's chief legal officer and is responsible for protecting the public interest of the state and its people.
Office of the State Appellate Defender: The principal function of the Office of the State Appellate Defender is to represent indigent persons on appeal in criminal cases when appointed by the Illinois Supreme Court, the Appellate Court or the Circuit Court.
