New Volunteer Opportunity - Guardianship Planning for Undocumented Immigrants

Guardianship Planning for Undocumented Immigrants Clinic

May 6th
11:00 am until 3:00 pm
Mexican Consulate
204 S Ashland Ave, Chicago, IL 60607

CVLS is seeking volunteer attorneys to help advise families at the Mexican Consulate on May 6th. All are welcome, regardless of experience. Fluency in Spanish is extremely helpful, but not required.

CVLS will host a live training for attorneys at the consulate at 11am. You will learn about the different types of legal guardianship in Illinois, with emphasis on short-term guardianships. Short-term guardianships are private party documents that do not require court involvement. Attorneys will learn when short-term guardianships are appropriate, the advantages and disadvantages of the forms, and how to help families complete them. Starting at noon, attorneys will sit down with families to provide legal advice and, where appropriate, help families execute a short-term guardianship for their children. Attorneys who attended our clinic on 3/12 at Immaculate Conception are not required to attend the 11am training, but are welcome if they would like a refresher.

Rebekah Rashidfarokhi, Director of CVLS’ Guardian ad Litem Program for Minors, along with other CVLS staff, will be available before and during the clinic to answer any questions attorneys and families might have. Fluency in Spanish is extremely helpful but not required; CVLS can arrange for interpreters for attorney who need them.

Registration for this clinic is now closed. For information on future clinics please email Rebekah at Please include your address, phone number, ARDC number, date of admission to the bar, and any languages spoken fluently
